Blending cultures.
One world.

A pianist who doesn’t carry a genre
Tazim Sheikh is a pianist, composer, producer and music educator from Kolkata, based in Mumbai.
His music carries the lineage of Hindustani classical music and the freedom of jazz, yet it answers to neither. His compositions stand as a testament to his versatility, creativity, and deep understanding of both Western and Indian musical traditions.
He began piano at the age of six in Kolkata, went on to study at the KM Music Conservatory in Chennai, and trained in Western classical piano alongside a Hindustani classical diploma, exploring jazz back home in Kolkata.
No genre. No borders.
Tazim’s music has no boundaries of genre and cannot be filed under any single name. Cultures blend, and the world is one living whole. His music is where that meeting happens, with Hindustani classical music and jazz running through it as influences, not labels.
Rooted in Hindustani classical
The patience, the melody and the rhythmic depth of the raga tradition live in the phrasing, whatever the instrument or the arrangement.
Free like jazz
The improviser’s ear and the spirit of conversation on stage. Played with the freedom to go wherever the music wants to go.
Names given by listeners and the press. Tazim doesn’t put a tag on his music.
